EA has confirmed that next Friday Battlefield fans can get their first look at the future of series in a live stream event with developers DICE on Twitch
Rumours of a new World War inspired shooter in the Battlefield series has been growing for some months.
And now we finally have some concrete confirmed development in the next big DICE shooter, thanks to an official event page for the Battlefield 5 world premiere shared by EA.
Battlefield fans can join the DICE team on Twitch on May 6 at 9PM (UK Time) and witness live the World Premiere of the new Battlefield trailer.
In addition viewers will get further insight into the minds of the developers and can hear from the Creative Director Lars Gustavsson and Lead Producer Aleksander Grondal on the past, present and the future of Battlefield.
You'll also be able to join in the conversation with questions taken directly from viewers.
Fans of the iconic shooty series can also 'enlist' today to become a Battlefield Insider for the opportunity to gain in-game rewards, exclusive content, and a further sneak peek at news about Battlefield (plus news about other EA games, services, and events).
In October 2014, publisher EA confirmed a new Battlefield game will ship in 2016.
Chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen said it planned to have a new shooter every year, and 2016 would follow up on the success of Star Wars Battlefront with a new Battlefield.
"What we've said is that our intention over the next couple of years is to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles," he replied. "This year it's Star Wars: Battlefront. Next year, it's another Battlefield title."
CFO Blake Jorgensen also confirmed that EA were looking to launch the next Battlefield title around the same time they did with earlier instalments.
For the record, Battlefield 4 was launched on October 29, 2013.
Earlier this month famed gaming researcher Liam Robertson might have stumbled on a potenial leak originating from a Swiss retail listing.
The listing itself suggested the game would arrive 25 October. But the more interesting part (which you can see below) was the wording.
The games description reads: "Mehrspieler Taktik Shooter im 1. Weltkrieg", which roughly translates to "Multiplayer tactical shooter in WW1".
Just the other day Joe Brammer, the executive producer of World War 2 shooter, Battalion 1944 tweeted “I've seen things #BF5 things and I am beyond excited.”
Following the excitement and questions created by this brief tweet, Brammer further commented: “Ha, clearly a mistake on my part! A massive oversight on the desperation for squeezing information!
Commenting on the apparent link between the game’s setting and him seeing Battlefield 5, he added: “Yeh there is like 0 logic in this analysis lol (SIC).”
Rumours of a World War setting were first sparked earlier this year when a listing posted by a German retailer appeared to confirm that the franchise is heading back to its roots.
Fans have been crying out for one of the top FPS shooters to return to a past war setting and it appears EA and DICE have heard their calls.
Battlefield 5’s release date was also reported by the German retailer as October 26, 2016.
Make of that what you will.
