APPLE is updating its tech timepiece making it faster and much more useful.
he smartwatch revolution is certainly taking time to build up steam.
All the major technology firms have launched wearables in the hope of tapping into this emerging market, but many have failed to get gadget fans excited.
Apple unveiled its smartwatch last year with sales performing pretty well when put alongside the competition.
However, the Apple Watch is a long way off hitting the figures of the firm’s insanely popular iPhone.
Now Apple is hoping a major update to its watch can help boost sales and the firm’s new WatchOS 3 operating system certainly appears to be a huge improvement over the original software.
Apple revealed its new WatchOS 3 at its yearly developers conference which took place earlier this week in San Francisco.
Perhaps the best new feature coming to the watch this Autumn is major speed boost.
With the new operating system installed Apple says its Watch will instantly become seven times faster.
This means apps will now load instantly rather than waiting for the few frusrating seconds users currently have to bear.
As well as this upgrade in speed Apple is also making their watch easier to navigate.
A simple tap on the side button will bring access to a new Dock which shows recent and favourite apps that have been used.
Similar to iOS, users will also be able to swipe up from the watch face for the new and improved Control Centre, continue to swipe down for Notification Centre and swipe left or right to easily switch out a watch face.
WatchOS 3 also allows you type message via a new scribble feature.
This allows users to quickly write letters on the display with the Apple Watch thenl converting the handwriting to text.
New digital watch faces are also arriving in the Autumn and the Apple Watch’s fitness tracking is also getting an upgrade.
Finally, there’s a very neat function which enables people in critical situations around the world to initiate a call with emergency services.
Called SOS, this new feature will not only call for help but also inform your closest contacts that something is wrong.
So, there’s some big changes coming to the Apple Watch later this year but will they be enough to finally make this a must-have piece of tech?
We'll have to wait until September to find out.
