Former boss tells Activision 'don't f*** it up'
ACTIVISION's planned Modern Warfare Remaster is coming and former Infinity Ward CEO Vince Zampella doesn't want it messing with "people's gaming memories."
Those of you might not know that Respawn Entertainment, the team behind Titanfall were once - for the most part - the same group of individuals working at Infinity Ward creating games such like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
That was of course before a very public lawsuit saw Infinity Ward co-founders Vince Zampella and Jason West leaving to create their new start-up company.
Interestingly Respawn will be going up against Call of Duty later this year when both Titanfall 2 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare release 1 week apart.
But it's also significant because this year will also see the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, packaged with Infinte Warfare.
And in an interview with Eurogamer at E3 2016 Respawn boss Vince Zampella had one very important message on the matter:
"I told them - don't f*** it up," he laughed.
"That's my on the record response. I rang them up and said, honestly, don't f*** it up. It's a huge part of people's gaming memories."
The developers of the original game, Infinity Ward, are this time acting as exec producer on the remaster, with developers Raven currently tasked with overhauling the game from the ground up.
Supposedly the new and improved game will have "fully improved texture resolution and detail, high-dynamic range lighting, lit and shadowing VFX particles, revamped animation and audio, stunning sound, and much more"
Since Activision announced the game earlier this year it's released several screenshots showing how Modern Warfare has changed since its initial 2007 release.
Viewers on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare announcement stream were also treated to some before and after shots of some classic multiplayer maps including: Crash, Backlot and Crossfire - which can all be viewed in the gallery above.
As for Respawn and Titanfall 2, Vince Zampella has said that the plan is to give away all post-launch maps and modes as free DLC, because Respawn don't wish to "split the community."
Producer Drew McCoy also added that the studio wants players to trust Respawn when buying the full priced game:
"We need to trust the player and they need to trust us…Trust that if we do the right thing – not sell maps and modes – we’ll get more people investing with us, investing in the game as a whole.
"They’re going to trust us not screw them over and they can be happy with their $60 versions."
Zampella finally added that when it comes to paid Titanfall 2 DLC content, nothing has been finalised but did suggest paid cosmetic items “might” be one avenue the studio could explore.
