ASSASSIN'S CREED creator and former Ubisoft genius Patrice Desilets discusses his next two games: Ancestors The Humankind Odyssey and 1666: Amsterdam.
Although everyone might be currently up in arms over the comments by Assassin's Creed creator Patrice Desilets detailing that hasn't played a Ubisoft game since 2012, we're far more interested in what's to come next from the French Canadian visionary.
Earlier this year it was revealed that Desilets had gained control of one of those projects - 1666 Amsterdam - an open world historical adventure Désilets dubbed "the new Assassin's Creed", which he was developing at THQ and then Ubisoft before he was fired.
With that protracted legal battle ongoing, Desilets started work on a new IP called Ancestors: The Humanking Odyssey under the banner of his startup studio Panache Digital Games.
Talking to Edge Magazine, Desilets finally revealed more information on what fans can expect from his "pre-history" adventure.
"We're focussing on one hour at a time, and that will allow us to deliver a game of comparable quality to, say, Uncharted," reveals Desilets.
"We're a smaller [studio], so we arn't making an entire seaon of a telvision series. We're making three episodes at a time. That's our business model: focussing on smaller, more manable chunks.
"By setting it in Pre-History, I don't have to build a car or a gun. Right now it's one character in a jungle. I don't have to do a crowd, or a city, or fire.
"It's a modular approach. This hour set five million years ago is something that nobody ever played before."
In the same interview, Desilets also explained that everything the studio are currently working on with Ancestors: The Humanking Odyssey, will have a direct impact on 1666: Amsterdam further down the line.
"The first thing we designed was a survival system. Once this was done, we now have a suvival system for every game we make further down the road.
"Panache is built around Ancestors, and Ancestors is build around Panache.
"The format we're proposing is ingenious, I think, moving from five million years ago, then four, then three, then two and so on with each new chapter.
"We move forward and with evolution, so the game evolves as well.
"Through this process we'll accrue all the tools we need to make 1666."
