went unnoticed - until now. LET’S be honest, has anyone actually ever watched a film with the DVD commentary turned on? Luckily, one dedicated viewer went against the grain and did exactly that, unearthing this hidden gem from Ben Affleck’s narration of a scene from Armageddon. The 43-year-old actor beings to pick apart the plot of the cult disaster-thriller to hilarious effect. “I asked Michael [Bay, director] why it was easier to train oil drillers to become astronauts than it was to train astronauts to become oil drillers,” he explains. “He told me to shut the f*** up. So that was the end of that talk" Affleck continues, sarcastically dissecting the ridiculousness of the plot. “Like, somehow they [the astronauts] can build rocket ships but they don’t understand what makes a good tranny [transmission],” he laughs. The one minute 40 second clip sent Twitter into meltdown this week, with users rushing to find their DVD players to watch their own copies of the amusing commentary. “LMAO this is gold. I need to see the rest of this,” said Michael Tweaton. Another comment read: “I’m buying this film for the sole purpose of this commentary! It’s amazing!” Armageddon was released in 1998 to shocking reviews from film critics. “The movie is an assault on the eyes, the ears, the brain, common sense and the human desire to be entertained,” Roger Ebert wrote. “No matter what they're charging to get in, it's worth more to get out.” Despite awful reviews, the film took more than $553.7 million (£388m) at the box office globally.
